Welcoming Everyone: Autism Friendly Sessions at Our Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre

02/04/2024

ScottishPower Renewables is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all at Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre. That’s why we offer Autism Friendly Sessions.

Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre

On the last Sunday of every month from 10am to 12pm, visitors can experience the Whitelee Visitor Centre in a sensory-friendly way. During these sessions, we take special steps to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip for everyone:

Quiet Environment: we understand that loud noises and bright lights can be overwhelming for some people, so all noisy exhibits and music will be switched off and the lights dimmed throughout the Visitor Centre during these sessions.

Sensory Considerations: hand dryers will be turned off in the toilets, and we will offer quiet spaces where visitors can take a break and relax if needed.

Supportive Resources: we provide ear defenders to help reduce noise levels and our bus tours during these sessions will be shorter and include stripped-back information to ensure a more manageable experience.

Staff Training: our dedicated Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre Team has undergone autism awareness training and is committed to providing a supportive and accommodating experience for all visitors.

Online Resources: we’ve created a video tour of what to expect at the Visitor Centre to allow individuals and their families to familiarise themselves with the environment beforehand, with the aim of reducing any anxiety or uncertainty. You can find it on the Visitor Accessibility page.

Join us on the last Sunday of every month between 10am and 12pm for a sensory-friendly experience in a space where everyone feels valued, respected and welcomed.
